About Kolakham

  • In front of majestic Mt Kanchenjunga Himalayan range there is a small village called Kolakham,the actual name is Kolbong Busty,Lingsaykha. The meaning of Kolakham was given (through) by a place where our ancestors extracted mustard oil from the old process with the help of wooden grain beater(traditional name as Dhiki),wooden beam, wooden block and stones which was called Kol(Mustard oil extractor) and kham means the place. So the name remain kolakham and after long time behind this whole village’s name is calling as kolakham. This actual place where mustard oil was extracted is in front of Samsuhang Homestay. This village is surrounded by different small villages and one side is attached with Neora Valley National Park’s vast Jungle. So many kind of animals and birds are found here. Kolakham is an exemplar destination for finding adventure and peace at the same time. Kolakham perched at an altitude of a hill 6100 feet high overlooking the mighty Eastern Himalaya is outstanding village to experience wildness from a close distance.

  • Best Time to visit

    October to April is ideal for visiting this park though day visits are open to tourists from 16th September to 15th June. The park remains closed for 3 months during monsoon. October to December time is great for mountain views while spring (March to April) is the time for blossoming flowers. Bird watchers should ideally visit Neora Valley National Park between December to March.

  • How To Reach

    Private hired vehicles are available from Siliguri and NJP to reach Kolakham via Lava which takes about 4 hrs from Siliguri. Private & hired Vehicles are available from all the taxi stand, airport, railway station etc. It takes about 3 hours from New Mal Junction Railway Station to reach Kolkakham.
